Week 6: Observation 2

Date: 10/04/2011

Context: Individual

Activity: Reading the Daily Texan on the bus

Observation: I saw that HAAM had a line on the front page of the school newspaper, advertising their benefit day, which is today. Later on 99.3, I also heard a radio advertisement for it. It was pretty cool to recognize something we talked about in class!

Week 5: Observation 2

Date: 09/25/2011

Context: with my friend Kate

Activity: Dropping off a kitten to the Town Lake Animal Shelter

Observation: After we took the kitten to the Shelter, we stuck around to play with the cats and dogs. The Shelter did a fantastic job of personalizing each message that was found with each animal. For example, one dog would have a sticker on its write-up that said "Knows basic commands like 'Sit' and 'Stay'!" and "Plays well with other animals!" or "Wants to be your only pet!". I thought this was a great way to determine if this pet would work well with your lifestyle with as much information as possible.

Week 4: Observation 2

Date: 09/16/2011

Context: Individual

Activity: Studying at Quack's (on 43rd and Duval)

Observation: While congratulating myself for studying on a Friday, I was looking around and noticed FreshPlus, the Hyde Park grocery. I actually have never been inside this grocery store, despite being to Quacks many times. I have always liked this part of Hyde Park and think FreshPlus would be a great place for people to advertise various social activist causes, as it seems to support community endeavors.

Week 4: Observation 1

Date: 09/14/2011

Context: In class

Activity: Listening to the MCP presentation

Observation: While listening to Paula and Heidi talk about the MCP, I could not help but think about the similarites and difference Mart has to Marfa, Texas. Marfa is a small town in West Texas but over the past decades, a thriving art community has come to reside there, including the famous Chinati Foundation by Donald Judd. I wonder what lessons Mart could learn from Marfa about recruiting and retaining artists across the world.
